    Eligibility:

    • Hugh le May Fellowship, 2024 is open to senior scholars who wish to pursue advanced study at Rhodes University.
    • The fellowship will be awarded to a fellow of another discipline within the Faculty of Humanities if there is no applicant with sufficient merit in one of the disciplines: Philosophy, Classics, Ancient, Medieval or Modern History, Classical, Languages, Political Theory, Law.
    • The duration of Hugh le May Fellowship, 2018 may be extended subject to availability of funds by mutual agreement.
    • The successful recipients of the fellowship are expected to reside in Grahamstown between 1 January and 31 December 2024.
    • At the end of the fellowships, fellows must present a report on the work taken up. 
    • In all the publications originating during the fellowship, the fellows must acknowledge Rhodes University and Hugh le May Fellowship, 2024.

    Value:

    • A monthly financial stipend of R10,000.00 is provided to support subsistence, or R15,000.00 if accompanied by a spouse.
    • If the Fellow accepts the job for at least four months and is accompanied by a companion, the partner's return economy airfare will be covered.
