The Des Graydon Memorial Scholarship supports Māori students undertaking study within Te Ara Poutama at Auckland University of Technology (AUT). The scholarship aims to encourage Māori scholarship in English or Te Reo Māori and support students who demonstrate academic commitment, future aspirations, and leadership capability.

Eligibility Criteria for the Des Graydon Memorial Scholarship at Auckland University of Technology 2027:

  • Applicant must have been accepted for full-time study in a certificate, diploma, undergraduate, or postgraduate degree programme within Te Ara Poutama.
  • Applicant must be a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident.
  • Applicant must nominate a referee who can provide a statement supporting their leadership ability. The referee may be a community leader, group, organisation, or school representative.

Application Process for the Des Graydon Memorial Scholarship at Auckland University of Technology 2027:

  • Applicant must apply through the AUT online scholarship application system.
  • Applicant must upload an official academic transcript showing results from the current and preceding year, unless the study was undertaken through AUT.
  • Applicant must submit a typed essay of up to 1,000 words in Te Reo Māori addressing their career paths, future goals, educational aspirations, and leadership capability.
  • Applicant must nominate one referee through the online application system who can provide a statement supporting their leadership ability.

Selection Criteria:

  • Applications will be assessed by a selection panel comprising representatives from Te Ara Poutama, selected by the Dean/Tumuaki.

Value of the Scholarship:

  • NZD 8,000 contribution towards tuition fees for up to one year of full-time study.
  • One new scholarship is awarded annually.
  • Recipients enrolled full-time but taking papers outside Te Ara Poutama, or recipients enrolled part-time, will receive a reduced pro-rata contribution towards fees for Te Ara Poutama papers only.

Notes:

  • The scholarship has a one-year tenure.
  • Current recipients may apply for renewal for up to a maximum total of three years, subject to submitting a new application by the closing date each year.
  • Renewal applicants are not required to submit attachments or a referee statement.
