Overview
KU Leuven is offering short-term research grants to researchers and alumni from selected groups of countries. The applicants are granted a research stay of a maximum of 90 days.
Eligibility Criteria of the Grant:
Applicants must:
- Have completed a PhD (postdoctoral level)
- Be a national and resident of an eligible country in the Global South
- Be employed by an institution located in one of the eligible countries
- Be affiliated with either the University of Kinshasa (UNIKIN) or the Catholic University of Congo (UCC) (2025–2026 call)
- Be invited and supported by a KU Leuven senior academic staff member (ZAP)
- Ideally be under 50 years of age (priority given)
- Have not received a KU Leuven short-term research grant in the previous two years (only one stay allowed every three years)
- Plan a research stay of maximum 90 days
- Ensure the research stay includes:
- Research activities
- Preparation or development of joint research projects with KU Leuven
- An opportunity to address a wider academic audience at KU Leuven

- Upload a signed invitation letter from a KU Leuven professor (ZAP)
- Upload a CV
- Upload a copy of passport
- Upload a copy of PhD certificate
Value of the Research Grant:
The grant includes:
- Return air ticket (cheapest available fare)
- Monthly allowance of €1,500
- Insurance coverage
- €200 lump sum for indirect travel costs
- Accommodation arranged in a university residence (paid from the allowance)
