Each year, highly qualified researchers from Europe and Japan are awarded up to fifteen Fellowships by the Canon Foundation in Europe. While Japanese Fellows are supposed to do their studies in Europe, European Fellows are intended to undertake a year of research in Japan. Fellowships from the Canon Foundation are awarded for a minimum of three months and a maximum of one year. The foundation funds research in every discipline. There are no constraints or limitations. Applicants don't need to be enrolled in school or employed at the time of application. European Canon Fellows are free to select the Japanese host institutes and hosts that best suit their needs. Japanese Canon Fellows travelling to Europe are allowed the same freedom. Applications for Canon Foundation Research Fellowships are accepted only once the guest researcher and the intended host institution have agreed on cooperation and a research plan. Members of business, industrial, governmental, or professional organizations may also submit applications.
Eligibility for Canon Foundation Research Fellowships, 2024:
- Applications are open to all Europeans, including those in the UK, Israel, Turkey, the Balkans, and the Baltics.
- Before applying to the Canon Foundation, candidates must have earned a Master's or PhD.
- As long as they include additional supporting documentation with their application, the foundation will also take into account candidates who earned their qualifications more than 10 years ago.
