Overview

Every year, the Medieval Institute provides three $750 stipends to scholars who wish to visit Notre Dame and consult its extensive collection of microfilms and other materials that reproduce the holdings of the Biblioteca Ambrosiana in Milan. All grants are made at the discretion of the Medieval Institute's director and are awarded based on the research project description and how consultation with the Ambrosiana Archive will advance the applicant's work. 

Eligibility Criteria of Stipends for Ambrosiana Microfilms Collection Research at University of Notre Dame:

  • Applicants may come from any nationality.
  • Postdoctoral and established scholars, together with advanced graduate students, are eligible for the scholarship.
  • Every grant is given out based on the description of the research endeavor and how consulting the Ambrosiana Archive would help the applicant's work.

Application Procedure: 

  • All eligible candidates must submit an online application to be considered for the scholarship.
  • The candidates must upload their most recent CV.
  • They must draft an application entailing the nature of the research project and how the use of the Ambrosiana Collection will advance their work.
  • The selected candidates must submit the proposed dates of the visit at least four weeks in advance of your visit.

Value of the Award:

The successful candidates are awarded a stipend of USD 750.
