A junior faculty scholar fellowship in Medieval Studies is available through the Medieval Institute, thanks to the kind response of the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to a challenge grant that the National Endowment for the Humanities gave to Notre Dame. Junior faculty members who are currently employed as assistant professors at a US university are eligible for this fellowship. All eligible candidates in the disciplines of medieval studies are welcome to apply. During the academic year, the fellowship holder will do research while living in residence at Notre Dame's renowned Medieval Institute (this is a nine-month job that begins mid-August). This Fellowship is intended to allow its holders to finish their research and write a book manuscript ahead of their tenure. Although there are no teaching duties associated with the Fellowship, recipients are required to live in South Bend and take part in the Institute's diverse intellectual life. The Medieval Institute will give the Fellow a private carrel, with computer and library privileges, and access to all research instruments.

Eligibility for A. W. Mellon Junior Faculty Fellowship in Medieval Studies:

Mellon scholars must have a Ph.D. in hand and be on a tenure-track position in a U.S. school. They should also have earned their degree within the last six years.
