Breeders of Hereford stud cattle worldwide knew Mr. William Mcllrath (1876–1955) as the creator and proprietor of the Windsor Hereford Stud, located near Myall Creek, Delungra, NSW. As the chairman of William Mcllrath Ltd., perhaps the largest private concern of provedores and grocers in Australia before it was sold to Woolworths in 1955, he was well-liked in business circles across the Commonwealth. Born in County Down, Ireland, William Mcllrath immigrated to Australia in 1890. He started the business that would later bear his name in Sydney with his two brothers, the late Sir Martin Mcllrath and his older brother Hugh. Although William Mcllrath had a special interest in Myall Creek, where he founded the Windsor Hereford Stud.
Eligibility for University of New England- William McIlrath Rural Scholarship:
- The candidate must be a permanent resident or an Australian citizen.
- Accepting applications from students finishing their senior year of high school as well as first-time university students with a gap year or years.
- The candidate should be enrolled in the UNE Business School, School of Education, School of Law, School of Science and Technology, School of Environmental and Rural Science, School of Rural Medicine, School of Health, and School of Education.
- ATAR/UAC Ranking or an equivalent score of at least 80 is necessary for new applicants.
- The applicant must be able to provide proof of their ability to pay (see required information and supporting documentation below).
- According to the Government Remoteness Tool, the applicant's permanent residential address must be either regional or remote (ASGS Remoteness Areas 2-5).
