Originally, Sir George Wigram Allen donated 381 pounds in 1867 and 500 pounds in 1883 to establish this prize. The scholarship's initial purpose was to promote legal education; today, the money is utilized to offer first-year scholarships for the Juris Doctor program.

Eligibility for the Wigram Allen Scholarship for the Juris Doctor Award at the University of Sydney:

  • Applicants must have an unconditional offer of full-time admission into the Juris Doctor (JD) Program within the University of Sydney Law School
  • Applicants must be high academic achievers. 

Students who have already commenced their JD studies or are transferring from other programs are not eligible to apply for this scholarship.
