The University of Manitoba offers full-time master’s and Ph.D. students to recognize and support academic excellence. The fellowships are offered to students who have demonstrated superior intellectual ability and academic accomplishment.

Eligibility criteria for the University of Manitoba Graduate Fellowship (UMGF):

  • Be admitted or in the process of being admitted to a full-time Master’s or PhD graduate program at the University of Manitoba. Pre-master’s and occasional students are not eligible.
  • Have a minimum admission GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale; departments may require a higher GPA.
  • Be registered full-time and progressing satisfactorily in their graduate program.
  • Maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 and no grade lower than C+ while holding the fellowship.
  • Show strong research potential and academic promise as judged by the department.
  • Not have held UMGF support for more than 4 years in total across their studies.
  • Not receive another award or scholarship of equal or greater annual value while holding the UMGF.

Benefits of the University of Manitoba Graduate Fellowship (UMGF):

Successful applicants of the University of Manitoba Graduate Fellowship (UMGF) will receive the following benefits:

  • Master’s level: CAD 20,000 per year (up to 24 months)
  • Doctoral (PhD) level: CAD 25,000 per year (up to 48 months)

Application process:

  • The application process and deadline should be discussed with the department or unit.
  • Student recommendations are made to the Faculty of Graduate Studies once the department or unit makes its pick.
  • An official letter from FGS will be sent by email to the awarded winners.
