The Sam and John Dawson Scholarship at the University of Surrey 

The Sam and John Dawson Scholarship at the University of Surrey is a substantial, needs-based award designed to support students from care-experienced backgrounds studying specific STEM subjects. 

Eligibility Criteria of The Sam and John Dawson Scholarship:

1. The applicant must be a first-year undergraduate student with Home/UK fee status and come from a care-experienced background.
2. The applicant may also be studying a STEM course at Surrey, although this criterion is not compulsory. 

Application Process: 

1. Applicants entering the first year of a STEM undergraduate degree at the University of Surrey must complete the full online scholarship application form, noting that this award cannot be combined with other university bursaries.
2. Outcomes will be communicated during the first semester, and since the Sam and John Dawson Scholarship is competitive, not all applicants will be selected.

Award: An award of GBP 15,000 per year for three years, plus a Professional Training Year, if taken.

Note: “Care-experienced” refers to students who have spent time under local authority care, which may include living in a residential children’s home, being looked after at home under a supervision order, or being raised by relatives through kinship care.
