The Jackson Family Foundation, formerly known as the Fair Wind Foundation Trust, founded the Scholarship in 2013 and funds it. With a focus on women's and children's education, the Foundation assists impoverished and marginalized communities.
Eligibility Criteria for The Jackson Family Foundation Scholarship:
- Applicants must be women students of Cook Island descent, who are citizens or permanent residents of New Zealand.
- Applicants must be enrolled in full-time study in any year of an undergraduate or postgraduate degree-level program at AUT.
- Applicants entering or in the first year of study will have as a minimum a NCEA 200 rank score based on results at Level Two or higher in the National Certificate of Educational Achievement.
- Applicants in the second or subsequent year of study must have a minimum GPA of 3.5.
- Applicants must demonstrate financial hardship that may prevent them from undertaking full-time study.
- Applicants must exhibit good academic standing.
Application Process:
All eligible candidates must apply online via the AUT online scholarship application portal. The application should include the following components:
- A one-page personal statement outlining the applicant’s connection to the Cook Islands, motivation to succeed at university, and demonstrated financial hardship.
- A current copy of the applicant’s NCEA record of achievement or academic transcripts for any tertiary study not completed at AUT.
- A recommendation from an independent referee.
Value of the Scholarship:
The successful candidates are awarded a stipend of up to NZD 10,000 per annum paid in monthly instalments over two continuous semesters of full-time study.
