History and purpose:
The late Dame Cheryll Sotheran was a founding CEO of Te Papa, which celebrated its 20th Anniversary in February 2018. Te Papa has established two scholarships to honour both Dame Cheryll Sotheran, and her co-leader, the Kaihautu Cliff Whiting the Kaihautū. These scholarships mark their legacies and make a vital contribution to research and training for the next generation of museum professionals. The Dame Cheryll Sotheran Memorial Scholarship will support a student to do a one-year full time Master's by thesis (worth 90 points or more) in Museum and Heritage Studies at Victoria University of Wellington.
Eligibility criteria:
- Applicants must be current Master's by thesis students doing Museum and Heritage Studies at Victoria University of Wellington, or be a current student studying Master's by thesis in a related field at Victoria University of Wellington.
- The applicant’s research proposal must be of interest and relevance to Te Papa, and have the potential for impact on professional practice in Aotearoa New Zealand.
