R W Barnes Scholarship Fund at Imperial College London
The R W Barnes Scholarship Fund (Physics Award) supports outstanding undergraduate students in the Department of Physics at Imperial College London who demonstrate exceptional academic potential and financial need. The scholarship aims to encourage talented students from underrepresented or disadvantaged backgrounds to pursue a degree in Physics by providing substantial financial assistance throughout their studies.
Eligibility Criteria of R W Barnes Scholarship Fund:
- Applicants must have been assessed with a Home fee status and qualify for Imperial College’s contextual admissions schemes (details available on the College website).
- Applicants must hold a conditional or unconditional offer to study an undergraduate degree in the Department of Physics starting in October 2026.
Application Process:
- Applicants must apply via UCAS for one of the eligible undergraduate degree courses within the Faculty of Natural Sciences, Department of Physics at Imperial College London.
- Applicants must hold an offer of admission by 11:59 pm (UK local time) on Tuesday, 31 March 2026.
Award: The successful scholar will receive a cash bursary of GBP 16,500 per annum. The scholar may choose to receive the full amount as a maintenance grant or allocate part of it toward tuition fees, with any remaining balance paid as a maintenance grant.
Note:
- The successful scholar may be expected to meet informally with the donor, participate in scholarship-related events, or submit a short progress statement to be shared with donors.
- The award applies to students starting in the 2026/27 academic year and cannot be deferred.
