R W Barnes Scholarship Fund at Imperial College London
The R W Barnes Scholarship at Imperial College London is an undergraduate bursary awarded by the Department of Mathematics to support students of Black heritage. It was established through a legacy gift from alumnus Ronald Barnes MBE.
Eligibility Criteria of R W Barnes Scholarship Fund:
- Applicants must have a Home fee status and identify as being of Black heritage.
- Applicants must apply via UCAS for a full-time undergraduate degree in the Department of Mathematics at Imperial College London starting in October 2026 (excluding the Joint Mathematics and Computing BSc/MSci Programme).
Application Process:
- Applicants must submit a UCAS application to study an eligible undergraduate degree within the Faculty of Natural Sciences, Department of Mathematics at Imperial College London.
- Applicants must then complete the R W Barnes Scholarship application form available on the Department of Mathematics website.
Award: The successful applicant will receive a cash bursary of GBP 16,500 per annum, which can be used either entirely as a maintenance grant or partly towards tuition fees, with any remaining amount paid as a maintenance grant.
Note:
- The successful applicant may be expected to meet informally with the donor, participate in events related to the scholarship, or submit a short progress statement to be shared with the donors.
- This award applies to students starting in the 2026/27 academic year and cannot be deferred.
