Presidents Doctoral Scholar Award at University of Manchester 2026

Every year, the University of Manchester provides several studentships under the President's Doctoral Scholar (PDS) Award system, which was established by Professor Dame Nancy Rothwell.

Eligibility for the President's Doctoral Scholar Award: 

• Applicants must enroll in a PhD program starting in September 2026.
• Applicants must hold a first-class honors undergraduate degree or equivalent from a reputable institution.
• Applicants must ideally hold a master's-level qualification at merit or distinction or equivalent.
• Applicants must have a track record of engaging with research.
• Applicants must be interested in attending a series of exclusive events to facilitate interactions with our academic community and network with other PDS Award holders.

Application Process:

• All interested candidates must first find a project, contact the listed project supervisor to discuss the suitability for the project, and apply for the project.
• Once interviewed and offered a place for the chosen project, the candidate must be nominated for the PDS Award by the supervisor.

Value of the Award:

The successful applicants of the President's Doctoral Scholar Awards will receive:

• Tuition fee waiver at the International rate.
• Annual maintenance stipend (at UKRI rate) plus a £1,000 enhancement.
