The University of Auckland Council will make the award on the recommendation of the Deputy Head (Academic) of the School of Humanities (or nominee) in consultation with the Major/Specialization Leader for History.

Eligibility for the N.A.C. McMillan Memorial Prize:

Be enrolled full-time in one of the following programs at the University of Auckland:
- Bachelor of Arts (Honours)—BA(Hons), or
- Master of Arts (MA)
Be majoring or specialising in History
Be enrolled in at least one course related to the history of Aotearoa New Zealand
Have completed the most recent qualifying programme, preferably in the year preceding the award year.

Value of the N.A.C. McMillan Memorial Prize:

One Award will be made annually for a period of up to one year and will be of the value of $1,000.
