Mavis Tuoro Scholarship at Auckland University of Technology 2027:
The Mavis Tuoro Scholarship was established in 1998 to acknowledge the contribution of Mavis Tuoro to Te Ara Poutama at Auckland University of Technology (AUT). The scholarship aims to encourage and support Māori scholarship in English or Te Reo Māori at AUT.
Eligibility Criteria for the Mavis Tuoro Scholarship at Auckland University of Technology 2027:
- Applicant must be accepted for full-time study in a certificate, diploma, undergraduate, or postgraduate degree programme within Te Ara Poutama.
- Applicant must be a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident.
- Applicant must provide a referee's statement supporting their leadership from a community leader, group, organisation, or school.
Application Process for the Mavis Tuoro Scholarship at Auckland University of Technology 2027:
- Apply through the AUT online scholarship application system, which is available from July in the year of application.
- Upload an official transcript of academic results for the current and preceding year, unless the applicant's study was undertaken through AUT.
- Submit a 1,000-word typed essay in Te Reo Māori discussing career paths, future goals, educational aspirations, and leadership capability.
- Nominate one referee through the online application system who can provide a statement supporting the applicant's leadership ability.
Selection Process:
- The selection panel consists of representatives from Te Ara Poutama, selected by the Dean/Tumuaki.
- The scholarship will not be awarded if the panel determines that no applicant has sufficient merit.
Value of the Scholarship:
- One new scholarship is awarded annually.
- The scholarship provides a contribution of NZD 8,000 towards tuition fees for up to one year of full-time study.
- Students enrolled full-time but taking papers outside Te Ara Poutama, or students enrolled part-time, will receive a reduced pro-rata contribution towards fees for Te Ara Poutama papers only.
Notes:
- The scholarship is tenable for one year and may be renewed for up to three years in total.
- It cannot be held with another AUT scholarship.
- Recipients are expected to maintain satisfactory academic progress and engage with relevant Te Pou Māori support services.
