The Sanctuary Scholarship supports students who are seeking asylum or have recognized humanitarian protection status in the UK and who do not have access to standard government student finance.

Eligibility Criteria for Sanctuary Scholarship at Lancaster University 2026:

Hold an offer for a full-time undergraduate (UG) or postgraduate taught (PGT) course at Lancaster University starting September 2026.
Cannot access mainstream student funding in the UK.
Have one of the following UK immigration or protection statuses:
- Asylum seeker (currently seeking asylum in the UK)
- Refused asylum seeker (but fresh claim in process)
- Limited or Discretionary Leave to Remain
- Indefinite Leave to Remain
- Refugee status, or spouse/child of someone with this status
- Humanitarian Protection status, or spouse/child of someone with this status
- Section 67 Leave, Calais Leave, Stateless Person Leave, or equivalent protected status
- Leave under the Ukraine Family Scheme or related Ukraine schemes

Value of Sanctuary Scholarship at Lancaster University 2026:

Tuition fee waiver: 100 % tuition fees covered while you remain ineligible for standard UK student finance.
Free on-campus accommodation.
Up to £5,000 per year to support living costs (non-repayable).
