Overview:
The UTS-Jumbunna Postgraduate Research Scholarship, funded by the Australian Government and UTS with the Jumbunna Institute, supports high-potential Indigenous Australian and Torres Strait Islander students undertaking a higher degree by research at UTS.
Eligibility for Jumbunna Postgraduate Research Scholarship:
To be eligible for the scholarship, a student must:
- Be an Australian Aboriginal Person and/or Torres Strait Islander; and
- Be accepted for admission to a higher degree by research at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), with UTS Supervisors; and
- Have completed a Bachelor Degree with First Class Honours, or be regarded by the University as having an equivalent level of attainment; and
- Be undertaking a higher degree by research (HDR) commencing at the University in the year of the scholarship and participate in the Research Student Development program; and
- Be enrolled as a full-time student unless the University has approved a part-time award; and
- Not be receiving an equivalent award, scholarship or salary providing a benefit greater than 75% of the scholarship stipend rate to undertake the HDR. Income earned from sources unrelated to the course of study is not subject to the 75% rule.
Selection process:
The stipend is awarded based on a competitive process using the scoring system determining
- academic merit of the applicant; and
- research and other relevant experience of the applicant; and
- publications record of the applicant; and
- relevance of the proposed research to the University's research strengths.
Value Offered:
Living Allowance - As of 01 January 2026, $57,000 per annum
