Overview

JSPS Short-Term Pre/Post-doctoral Fellowships in Japan are open to pre and post-doctoral researchers who wish to conduct cooperative research with leading research groups at Japanese Universities and Institutions.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Applicants must be US, Canada, European Union countries, UK, Switzerland, Norway, or Russia passport holders.
  • Applicants must have obtained their doctoral degree at a university outside Japan within six years of the start of the fellowship.
  • Applicants who have resident cards with mailing addresses in Japan are not eligible.
  • Applicants must be full-time researchers.

Application Process:

  • Eligible candidates must apply online for the scholarship.

Value of the Fellowship:

  • The successful applicants can avail of the following benefits:
    • A round-trip air ticket,
    • Maintenance Allowance:
      • For PhD holders: JPY 362,000 per month,
      • For non-PhD holders when research starts in Japan: JPY 200,000 per month.
    • A settling-in allowance of JPY 200,000 (only applicable for Fellows with 3 or more months of tenure),
    • Overseas travel insurance.
