This initiative is provided by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) through the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS), in collaboration with the NIH’s Fogarty International Center (FIC), and the NIH Office of Intramural Research.
Eligibility Criteria:
- The applicants must be Japanese citizens or permanent residents of Japan.
- The applicants must have obtained their doctoral degree on or after April 2, 2019.
- Applicants already working in the United States must be eligible for an extension of their visa.
- Applicants who are previous recipients of JSPS Overseas Research Fellowships are not eligible.
Application Process:
- Interested candidates must apply along with the following documents:
- Letter of Invitation,
- Certificate of PhD degree,
- 5-page Biosketch of the candidate's NIH host researcher.
Value of the Fellowship:
- Selected candidates are awarded the following benefits:
- A monthly stipend of JPY 379,000.
- The Fellows are designated as a Supplemental Visiting Fellow.
- The NIH Institute or Center (IC) provides health insurance coverage for each Fellow and eligible accompanied family members.
Notes:
- Applicants must devote themselves exclusively to their research at NIH during the tenure of their fellowship.
- Applicants must prepare an annual report on their research progress.
- Applicants may not receive other fellowships, during the period of their tenures in principle.
- Applicants must not have employment commitments outside of the fellowship program, including part-time work.
- Applicants may not matriculate to a university or graduate school as a student during the period of their tenure.
- Applicants shall not commit inappropriate behavior, such as fabrication, falsification, or plagiarizing, in connection with their research activities
