Overview

The Joan F. Giambalvo Fund for the Advancement of Women provides scholarships to support research advancing the study of women in the medical profession and strengthening the AMA's ability to identify and address the issues affecting women physicians and medical students. The scholarship was established by the Women Physicians Section (WPS) in conjunction with the AMA Foundation.

Eligibility for the Joan F. Giambalvo Fund for the Advancement of Women:

  • Applicants must be females based in the USA.
  • Applicants must be medical students or physicians. 
  • Applicants without AMA membership are eligible.
  • Applicants who are members of the AMA Foundation Board of Directors, AMA Board of Trustees, Joan F. Giambalvo Fund for the Advancement of Women selection committee, AMA staff, and AMA Foundation staff are not eligible.
  • Applicants who are current AMA-WPS Governing Council members and those members serving between 2018-2023 are not eligible.

Application Process:

Eligible candidates must complete and submit the online application form to be considered for the award.

Value of the Award:

Successful candidates are awarded a sum of up to USD 10,000.
