Jim and Barbara Milburn Scholarship in English at Victoria University of Wellington

The James Dalton Milburn Scholarship, established in 2022 through a bequest from his estate, honors the student life and contributions of Jim and Barbara Milburn. It celebrates their engagement in academics, sports, debating, and student leadership at Victoria University of Wellington, reflecting the passion for learning and the arts that inspired their lifelong teaching and publishing.

Eligibility Criteria: Applicants must be New Zealand citizens or Permanent Residents, studying English at Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington, and progressing from their first to second year of study.

Selection criteria: Applicants will be awarded based on financial hardship.

Application process: A completed online application must be submitted by 4.30 pm on the closing date. Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted. Any required supporting documentation (including references) must also be received by 4.30 pm on the closing date in order for the application to be considered.

Award: NZD 5,000.

Deadline: 31st October, 2025.

Note: 

1. The funds will be paid directly to the recipient in two equal instalments in Trimester 1 and Trimester 2 during the tenure of the scholarship.
2. Recipients must write a thank you letter to the donor within one month of receiving the scholarship.
3. The Scholarship cannot be deferred to a later year.
4. The Scholarship may be held in conjunction with other University awards.
