Overview

ETH4D Doctoral Scholarships, 2025 is offered by ETH4D Zurich, which offers two doctoral fellowships every year. The objective of the Engineering for Development (ETH4D) Programme is to foster research and educational initiatives aimed at benefiting individuals residing in low-income nations.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • The applicants must be from low or lower-middle-income countries.
  • The applicants must have relevant experience in the respective research field.
  • The applicants must exhibit superior academic performance.
  • The applicants must find an ETH professor to supervise their research.
  • The supervisor must have a confirmed position in ETH.

Application Process:

The application process takes place in two steps.

  • The eligible candidates must submit the Concept Note Application Form 2026 to the ETH4D program office by e-mail to  francis.baranyk@nadel.ethz.ch.
  • The Concept Note Application should include the following components:
    • CV of the candidate,
    • Excellent MSc degree from a recognized university and grade transcripts,
    • Support letter of the supervising professor at ETH Zurich,
    • Two reference letters from your field of research,
    • Relevant publications or documentation of relevant activities relating to the project,
    • List of five independent reviewers,
    • Bibliography.

Value of the Fellowship:

The successful candidates can avail of the following benefits:

  • The grant sum covers 200'000 CHF of salary and research costs towards a four-year PhD.
