Ghent University is offering Doctoral Scholarships for Candidates from Developing Countries, 2019 to candidates who aim to grow into excellent research centers by upgrading local academic personnel. During his/her tenure, the candidates should spend half of the duration at Ghent University and the rest of the duration at a university or research center in a developing country.
Eligibility for Ghent University - Doctoral Scholarships for Candidates from Developing Countries in Belgium, 2019:
- Candidates applying for Doctoral Scholarships for Candidates from Developing Countries, 2019 must be national citizens of one of the developing countries.
- Candidates must guarantee that they will be able to work on their Ph.D. at the partner university in a selected developing country by assuring the presence of a local supervisor at the partner university or research center.
- A written statement is required stating that the student is either a full-time Ph.D. student or a staff member of Ghent University and will be successfully exempted to carry out Ph.D. at the partner university or research center.
- The written statement must also include that during their tenure at the partner university, the candidates receive local Ph.D. scholarship or salary.
- Students in receipt of CSC scholarship are ineligible to apply for Doctoral Scholarships for Candidates from Developing Countries, 2019.
Selection criteria:
Recommendations obtained from members of the Council for Development Cooperation are considered by the Research Council to make the selections. The following are the selection criteria:
- The doctoral project
- scientific/scholarly potential of the promoter’s research group(s)
- scientific/scholarly potential of the local institute
- qualifications of the applicant
- The relevance of the research topic for development is also considered.
