Dalhousie Research Excellence Scholarship (DRES)

The Dalhousie Research Excellence Scholarship (DRES) was established in 2024. The Dalhousie Research Excellence Scholarship (DRES) attracts and supports exceptional new PhD students at Dalhousie University.

Eligibility Criteria for the Dalhousie Research Excellence Scholarship (DRES):

  • Applicants must intend to start, enrol in, or transfer to a PhD program at Dalhousie University between January 2027 and January 2028.
  • Applicants must demonstrate outstanding research achievement.
  • Applicants must demonstrate exceptional leadership potential.
  • Applicants must demonstrate the capacity to generate significant regional, national, or international impact through their research.
  • Applicants must be admitted to and registered in their intended PhD program before scholarship funds are administered.
  • Students transferring from a master's to a PhD without completing the master's may be considered based on their effective transfer date.
  • To maintain eligibility, recipients are expected to apply to the Tri-agency CGRS-D competition within the first two years of their PhD program.

Value of the Dalhousie Research Excellence Scholarship (DRES):

  • $35,000 per year for up to four years (may become honorary if replaced by a higher-value CGRS-D award).

Application Process:

  • Applicants must submit or intend to submit a Tri-agency CGRS-D application through Dalhousie. Eligible applicants will be automatically considered for DRES funding.
  • If you are not eligible to apply for CGRS-D through Dalhousie, create an application through the Faculty of Graduate Studies Scholarship Management Platform.
  • Applicants must submit the application and all accompanying materials by the applicable deadline.
  • If you are a Dalhousie student with a NetID and password, access the scholarship platform using your Dalhousie NetID.
