Eligibility Criteria for College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences Research Awards at University of Edinburgh 2026:
- Be applying to start their first year of PhD study (full-time, part-time, or distance) in the 2026/2027 academic year.
- Be applying for a PhD in one of the eligible Schools within the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences:
- Business School
- School of Economics
- School of History, Classics and Archaeology
- School of Health in Social Science
- School of Literatures, Languages and Cultures
- School of Philosophy, Psychology and Language Sciences
- Not be applying for an MSc by Research (these are not eligible).
- Demonstrate outstanding academic merit and research potential.
- (Economics applicants only) Participate in an interview if shortlisted.
- Apply to the relevant UK Research Council as well if the research area qualifies and the applicant meets those criteria (recommended).
Value of College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences Research Awards at University of Edinburgh 2026:

- Economics PhD with Integrated Study (4-year programme)

- Stipend set at the UKRI rate for 2026/27 (reference: £20,780 for 2025/26 for full-time students; pro-rata for part-time).
