Coimbra Group Scholarships cover short-term (1-month) stays for doctoral students and young researchers – from all scientific disciplines – from 3 geographical areas:

  • Latin America
  • Sub-Saharan Africa
  • Neighboring countries of the European Union (Albania, Algeria, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Egypt, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Georgia, Israel, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, Libya, Moldova, Montenegro, Morocco, the Palestinian Authority, Serbia, Syria, Tajikistan, Tunisia, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan)

Each year, the University of Poitiers offers one scholarship per geographical area.

Eligibility criteria:

  • The candidates applying should be below 45 years of age.
  • The students should be residents of countries in Sub-Saharan Africa.
  • Should be current staff members of a university or an equivalent higher education institution in Sub-Saharan Africa.
  • The applicant should be of doctoral/postdoctoral or equivalent status.
  • The duration of the short stay is 1 month.

Application Process:

  • Identify a potential host laboratory
  • Contact a referent teacher-researcher for your stay in this laboratory.
  • Propose a research project to be studied by the teacher-researchers.
  • If your project is accepted, you will receive a letter of support from the laboratory director.
  • You will need to attach this letter to the application form to be completed directly on the Coimbra Group website.
