Care Leaver and Estranged Student Travel Award at University of Northampton 2026:

The Care Leaver and Estranged Student Travel Award provides financial support to eligible care leavers and estranged students to help cover the costs of travelling to the University of Northampton campus. The award is designed to reduce the financial burden of regular travel, including journeys made by car or public transport, and may help students attend lectures, seminars, placements and other essential university activities.

Eligibility Criteria for the Care Leaver and Estranged Student Travel Award at University of Northampton 2026:

  • Applicant must be living in accommodation off campus and travelling to the University by car or public transport.
  • Applicant must be living a minimum of one mile from the campus.
  • Applicant must be under 25 years of age on the first day of the first academic year of their course.
  • Applicant must be a Home student enrolled on a full-time undergraduate course at the University of Northampton.
  • Applicant must not be an EU or International student.
  • Applicant must have been in care or under a care order for at least 13 weeks since the age of 14, or must be estranged from their parents.
  • Applicant must provide supporting evidence confirming their care or estrangement status, such as a letter from their Local Authority, support/social worker, or other evidence of estrangement.
  • Applicant must not be living with their parents or receiving financial support from their parents.

Application Process for the Care Leaver and Estranged Student Travel Award at University of Northampton 2026:

  • Applicant must complete the Care Leaver and Estranged Student Travel Award application form.
  • Applicant must provide the required supporting evidence with their application.
  • Applicant who is eligible for the award will normally receive the payment in three instalments per year, scheduled for September, January and April.

Value of the Scholarship:

  • Successful applicants may receive up to GBP 1,000 per year.
  • The award is intended to help cover the costs of travelling to campus.

  • Applicants must re-apply in subsequent years if they wish to continue receiving the Travel Award.
  • Receiving the Travel Award does not automatically make a student eligible for a University of Northampton parking permit.

  • Any applicable parking permit costs may be paid using the Travel Award.
  • Eligible students may also qualify for the Care Leaver and Estranged Student Award, subject to meeting its separate eligibility criteria.
