Eligibility Criteria for Care Experienced Bursary at University of Essex 2025:
Applicants must:
- Be a current or former University of Essex student eligible to attend a Graduation ceremony in 2025.
- Have been assessed as a Home fee-paying student and be ordinarily resident in the UK (overseas fee-paying students are not eligible).
- Be undertaking undergraduate or postgraduate study.
- Be under the age of 25 at the start of their final year of study.
- Have experience of being in UK local authority care at any point in their life, including:
- Being a care leaver (looked after for at least 13 weeks since age 14 and in care on or after their 16th birthday),
- Having been in foster care, a children’s home, or privately fostered,
- Having been ‘looked after at home’ under a supervision order.
Value of Care Experienced Bursary at University of Essex 2025:
Eligible new or continuing undergraduate or postgraduate students with experience in UK local authority care may receive a bursary of up to £1,500 for the 2024–2025 academic year.
Application Process:
The deadline to apply for the fund is:
- Friday 20 March 2025 for Spring Graduation (held Monday 7 to Friday 11 April 2025)
- Thursday 3 July 2025 for Summer Graduation (held Monday 14 to Friday 18 July 2025)
