Overview

Eligibility for the Bank of Canada Governor's Award:

  • The applicant must be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident of Canada, or have another valid work visa.
  • The candidate must carry out and support research in finance or economics in Canada (but nominations where the majority of the study is done there may also be taken into consideration).
  • The candidates must have earned a Ph.D. within a decade following their nomination.
  • Throughout the Award, the candidate must have an associate or assistant professorship at a Canadian university.

Nomination:

  • There is no limit to the number of candidates a university can nominate for the Governor’s Award.
  • The nomination period is now closed and will reopen in the fall of 2025.

Selection:

Eligible nominees will be considered by the Fellowship Nominating Committee. This Committee provides recommendations to the Bank's Governing Council, who select the final recipient(s). 

Value of the Bank of Canada Governor's Award:

The award consists of a $30,000 annual research grant for a term of up to two years, subject to an annual review and confirmation process.
