AUT Postgraduate Research Scholarships 2026

The AUT Postgraduate Research Scholarships support postgraduate students undertaking research-based study at Auckland University of Technology and recognise academic achievement and research potential.

Eligibility for AUT Post Graduate Research Scholarship 2026:

  • Applicants must undertake postgraduate study with a research component at Level 8 or Level 9 of the New Zealand Qualifications Framework.
  • Applicants must intend to enrol in a programme with at least a 30-point research component for a Bachelor Honours degree or a 45-point research component for a Master’s degree.
  • Applicants must demonstrate the potential to achieve highly.
  • Applicants must enrol in an eligible programme offered by a participating AUT faculty, school, or office in the relevant scholarship round.

Documents Required:

  • A one-page personal statement outlining the applicant’s academic goals, motivation, interest in research study, and career aspirations, stating why they believe they merit the scholarship.
  • If the applicant applies for a Master of Philosophy or Master’s by 120pts thesis, their approved PGR1. - If the applicant is applying under the category Māori or Pacific, they must outline in the statement their cultural involvement.
  • Suppose an applicant wishes to be considered as under financial hardship. In that case, they must address this in their statement and upload evidence of their financial position, i.e., an IRD statement of income, and provide a reference from a person other than a family member who can support the applicant’s financial need.
  • Academic transcript(s) for any previous tertiary study completed at a New Zealand tertiary institution other than AUT.
  • Once grades have been finalized, a copy of the applicant’s AUT transcript will be added to the application by the Scholarships Office.

Application Process for the AUT Postgraduate Research Scholarships 2026 :

  • Applicants must apply through the AUT scholarship application system.
  • Applicants must apply during the relevant scholarship round for their faculty or office.
  • Applications open in October for Semester 1 enrolment and in May for Semester 2 enrolment.
  • Applicants must refer to the scholarship regulations for detailed eligibility and programme requirements.
