    AHRC Doctoral Landscape Award PhD Scholarships for research in Arts and Humanities at the University of Sussex

    The AHRC Doctoral Landscape Award (DLA) PhD Scholarships are university-funded scholarships for Arts and Humanities research beginning in autumn 2026. These awards have now replaced the old Doctoral Training Partnerships as the AHRC’s main funding route.

    Eligibility Criteria of AHRC Doctoral Landscape Award PhD Scholarships for research in Arts and Humanities:

    1. International students can apply, but the AHRC only covers the UK/Home fee rate. International applicants must fund the fee difference themselves. Research must fall under the AHRC remit.
    2. To be eligible, applicants must hold an offer for a Sussex PhD in Media, Arts and Humanities starting autumn 2026, have an excellent academic or professional record, and be resident in the UK during the PhD (except for fieldwork/conferences).
    3. Scholarships are open to full-time and part-time study (with part-time funding spread over 7.25 years). Students already enrolled in a PhD are not eligible. 

    Application Process: 

    1. There are two deadlines: apply for a Sussex PhD by 4 pm on 12 December 2025, then refine your application with your supervisor and submit the funding application + EDI form by 4 pm on 30 January 2026.
    2. Applications are evaluated on your research proposal quality, your suitability for doctoral study, and how well your project fits the supervisory team and research environment. No placement details are required.

    Award: Full tuition Fees covered at UK/Home rate, an annual tax-free stipend is provided, aligned with the UK Research Council.
