Herchel Smith Research Studentships at University of Cambridge 2024

In line with his research objectives, a portion of Dr. Smith's remaining gift was allocated to Harvard University to support a PhD studentship program for aspiring Harvard and Cambridge students. One of the universities' most esteemed studentships is the Herchel Smith Research Studentship. Within the broad field of life sciences, students are chosen at both schools, and the program includes frequent meetings between managers and students. 2008 saw the awarding of the first Herchel Smith PhD studentships. Currently, Harvard accepts five HS PhD students each year (for a two-year study term), whereas Cambridge accepts three to four HS PhD students per year (for a four-year study time).

Eligibility for Herchel Smith Research Studentships:

• The applicant should be a prospective student
• The applicant should be a PhD student
• The student should be enrolled full-time

Benefits of the scholarship:

• Tuition Fees (fully or partially covered by a college)
• Stipend at Wellcome Trust rates for four years (starting stipend = £22,976)
• Research Support grant (£5,000 a year)
• Visa costs (for the overseas students)

There is no particular deadline for this scholarship but it will be as same as the funding deadline for the course.
