Eligibility Criteria for UQ PhD Industry Placement Award:

Applicants must:

  • Be a PhD candidate at University of Queensland.
  • Be either:
    • Receiving no living stipend, or
    • Receiving a stipend managed by an external sponsor.
  • Successfully complete a Graduate Research School–approved PhD Industry Placement of at least 60 working days.
  • Submit a project brief within the first 18 months (FTE) of candidature, including:
    • Project outline
    • Placement duration
    • Host organisation approval
    • Supervisor endorsement
  • Complete the placement at least one month before stipend expiry, including required reports and completion confirmation.

Value of UQ PhD Industry Placement Award:

$9,375 AUD (2026 rate, indexed annually)

Application Process:

  • Enrol as a PhD candidate at UQ.
  • Apply for and participate in an approved HDR Industry Placement (minimum 60 working days).
  • Submit a project brief within the first 18 months FTE with required approvals.
  • Complete the placement and submit completion reports.
