The University of Michigan is offering scholarships to faculty members of African universities and colleges.

Eligibility

  • The applicants for University of Michigan African Presidential Scholarship Program, should have taught in the higher education system for not more than 10 years in a college or university in Africa.
  • The candidates should show support from the home institution.
  • The applicants are expected to submit a recommendation letter from HOD, vice chancellor or dean from the home university.
  • The candidates are expected to stay in residence for four-six months.

Documents required

  • The candidates applying for University of Michigan African Presidential Scholarship Program, from Ghana, Uganda, South Africa, or Ethiopia can apply directly. But candidates applying from outside should be nominated by a faculty member of the University of Michigan.
  • The nomination faculty should complete the nomination form and submit an endorsement letter indicating a willingness to serve as a mentor.
  • The candidates should submit a curriculum vitae, a research proposal not more than 5 pages and letter of support from HOD, vice chancellor or dean from the home university.

Selection Criteria

  • The applicants for University of Michigan African Presidential Scholarship Program, will be assessed based on the academic quality of the program and the candidate.
  • The candidates will be evaluated based on support from their home institution.

Value of the scholarship

  • The recipients get round-trip airfare from their home country to Michigan, residency at the University of Michigan for four to six months, a stipend and free housing.
  • The recipients also get laboratory or office space and an opportunity for the research presentation.
