Eligibility Criteria for the Fellowship:

  • Applicants may come from any nationality.
  • Applicants must be enrolled in the PhD program at UCB.
  • Applicants' dissertation projects must entail humanistic material or problems that have a significant bearing on the humanities.

Application Process:

All eligible candidates must complete and submit the Townsend Center Dissertation Fellowship Application to be considered for the fellowship.

Value of the Fellowship:

The successful candidates can avail of the following benefits:

  • A $34,000 stipend for the academic year.
  • An additional $2,500 stipend is provided by the Jacobson Memorial Teaching Award (applicable to one fellow).
  • Payment of in-state tuition.
