The Satinder Kaur and Dr Narinder Singh Kapany Scholarship at Imperial College London is a postgraduate award for financially disadvantaged students from the Sikh community pursuing a Master's degree. The scholarship honors Imperial alumnus Dr Narinder Singh Kapany, widely known as the "father of fibre optics," and his wife Satinder Kaur, for their dedication to education and service to the community.
Eligibility Criteria of The Satinder Kaur and Dr Narinder Singh Kapany Scholarship:
- Applicants will be ranked based on academic merit, financial need, and identification as a member of the Sikh community.
- Applicants must complete the scholarship application form and hold an offer for an eligible programme by 11:59 pm (UK time), Friday 1st May 2026, after which they will be ranked according to the above criteria.
Application Process:
- Applicants must apply for an eligible MSc course within the Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Natural Sciences, or Business School and secure an offer by 11:59 pm (UK time) on Friday, 1st May 2026. Since some departments follow fixed application rounds, applicants may need to apply by March 2026 to receive an admission decision before the scholarship deadline. An application fee may apply, depending on eligibility for a fee waiver.
- Applicants must complete the scholarship application form, demonstrating academic merit or potential and proving they come from a financially disadvantaged background, defined as being unable to afford study in the UK due to financial constraints and/or facing barriers linked to factors such as disability, refugee status, marginalisation, cultural expectations, gender or sexual discrimination, poverty, or education in extremely low-resource environments.
Award: A Maintenance grant of GBP 19,580.
Note:
- The successful scholar may be expected to meet informally with donors, participate in scholarship-related events, and submit a short progress statement to be shared with them.
- The award is strictly for students starting in the 2026–27 academic year and cannot be deferred.
