The Choral Scholarships for September 2024 are offered to complement the BA (Hons) Music course at Northumbria University. These scholarships provide a unique opportunity for students passionate about music to work with professional musicians at St Nicholas Cathedral in Newcastle and participate in the newly formed Newcastle Cathedral Consort.
Eligibility Criteria:
Applicant:
- Must be a UK/Home student, including those domiciled in Jersey, Guernsey, The Channel Islands, Ireland, and the Isle of Man.
- Must have applied for a Full-Time Undergraduate course starting in September 2024, including Foundation Year students.
- Must select Northumbria as their firm choice by 06 June 2024.
- Must register with Student Finance England (SFE), Student Finance Wales (SFW), or Student Finance Northern Ireland (SFNI) for payment administration.
Eligible courses include all Full-Time Undergraduate and Foundation Year courses at the Newcastle Upon Tyne campus and Coach Lane campus.
Application Process:
- Apply via online written application.
- Shortlisted applicants will attend a singing audition with Cathedral and Northumbria University representatives on campus.
- The audition involves performing one piece of music or a section from a longer work, lasting between 4 and 8 minutes, sight-reading, and a voice test.
- In the application, the candidate must describe their singing experience and how they would contribute to vocal and choral music-making at Northumbria University and St Nicholas Cathedral in 1500 characters or less.
Value of the Scholarship:
- A cash payment of GBP 700 to successful students.
- Opportunity to work closely with music teaching staff and participate in the Newcastle Cathedral Consort.
