Overview

The Tangiwai Excellence Scholarship acknowledges the university's dedication to helping academically brilliant school dropouts pursue higher education and marks these individuals as future scholars of New Zealand. Academic performance will be the basis for a competitive scholarship granting process. 

Eligibility for Tangiwai Excellence Scholarships at Victoria University of Wellington:

  • Candidates must be Australian citizens or permanent residents, and dependents of diplomats must be completing at least two full years (i.e., their Year 12 and Year 13) at a New Zealand Secondary School at the time of application.
  • The NCEA Level 2 Certificate with Excellence endorsement from Year 12 is required of applicants (or a comparable level of success in another qualification).
  • Candidates must plan to enroll full-time in Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington in the year after submitting their application for their first undergraduate degree.
  • To be eligible to apply for this scholarship, applicants must be in Year 13 or have finished Year 13 the year before and be taking a gap year.

Application Process:

All eligible candidates must apply online to be considered for the scholarship. The candidates must submit the supporting documentation as and when requested by the university.

Value of the Scholarship:

Scholarships of NZD 7,000 is awarded for the first year of study. These funds can be used as stipends to help with living expenses during your first year at Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington—or towards housing fees.
