Overview

The SPRS award offers supplementary or full scholarships, the number and value of which are at the discretion of SRA. The preference is given to applicants who receive an RTP or equivalent scholarship. Successful applicants not holding an RTP scholarship or any other base scholarship will be provided a tax-free stipend of AUD 32,000 per annum.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of Australia.
  • Applicants must enroll in a Master's or PhD research degree in disciplines relevant to the future of the Australian sugar industry.
  • Applicants must exhibit superior academic standing.
  • Applicants must address one of the research missions in their project:
    • Profitable and productive
    • Resilient and enduring
    • Diversified and adaptable
    • Wealth generating through land stewardship
    • Skilled for the future.

Application Process:

  • All eligible candidates must access the SRA SugarNet online submission system to apply for the scholarship.
  • The application should include the following components:
    • The CV,
    • Certified copies of the academic,
    • Record and academic transcript,
    • Letters of reference from at least two referees,
    • Proof of nationality or permanent residence visa.

Value of the Scholarship:

All successful candidates are awarded based on the following quotas:

  • Non-RTP or any other base scholarship holders - Stipend of AUD 32,000 tax-free per annum.
  • RTP scholarship holders - A tax-free top-up set at a maximum of 75% of the RTP stipend rate.
  • An additional budget of AUD 10,000 (excluding GST) per year to support research project operating expenses.
