St Andrews–Max Planck Ph.D. Studentship in Demography/Population Studies, 2017 is open to highly motivated and qualified students who wish to work on fertility in high-income countries. The duration of the studentship is 3.5 years. Candidates will be working at the University of St Andrews during the first two years and the rest of the two years will be spent at the Max Planck institute.

Eligibility criteria:

  • Applicants of St Andrews–Max Planck Ph.D. Studentship in Demography/Population Studies, 2017 must have an outstanding first class or upper secondary Master's degree in the UK or an international equivalent in any field of social sciences.
  • The studentship will provide the following:
    • During the stay at the University of St Andrews:
      • A maintenance grant of £14,553/year,  research training support grant of £750/year, the standard fee for UK/EU students (£4,195).
    • During the stay in Germany:
      • Gross salary of about €21,944/year, Financial support for travel, research training, and data acquisition.
  • Applicants St Andrews–Max Planck Ph.D. Studentship in Demography/Population Studies, 2017 must submit the following documents before ethe deadline: 
    • a research proposal in a maximum of two pages describing fertility in one or several high-income countries
    • CV in maximum of 2 pages along with details of two referees
    • Copies of undergraduate and master's degree transcripts
