These scholarships at Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington support Māori, Pasifika, and women pursuing full-time, research-focused Master’s degrees at the School of Engineering and Computer Science. They are available for Master’s programs with a thesis component of 90 points or more and aim to promote leadership, academic excellence, and diversity.
Eligibility Criteria of School of Engineering and Computer Science Master’s by Thesis Scholarship:
- Applicants must be intending to enrol full-time in a Master’s by thesis worth 90 points or more at the School of Engineering and Computer Science, Victoria University of Wellington, either at the time of application or by the start of Trimester 2 the following year. Part 2 of a two-year Master’s (usually course code 591) is also eligible.
- Applicants are normally expected to have completed a Bachelor’s, Honours, or Master’s Part 1 with academic achievement equivalent to First-Class Honours. Students undertaking a 180-point Master’s are not eligible.
Selection Criteria: Applicants must be New Zealand citizens or permanent residents and belong to an equity group (Māori, Pasifika, or women).
Application Process: A completed online application must be submitted on the closing date. Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted.
Award: NZD 17,000 tax-free stipend, plus tuition fees for one year (domestic fees for the thesis component only).
Note:
- The scholarship provides a NZD 17,000 tax-free stipend plus tuition fees for one year (domestic fees for the thesis component only), which will be paid directly to the University by the Scholarships Office.
- The stipend will be disbursed in monthly instalments, starting as soon as practicable after confirmation of enrolment.
- Approval is required from the Faculty of Engineering Research Committee for co-tenure with other awards totaling more than $6,000, which may reduce the stipend value.
