The Ruth St. John Memorial Award in Science supports students who have completed substantial full-time study in the Science programme at Okanagan College and are progressing to further Science studies at a post-secondary institution.

Eligibility Criteria for the Ruth St. John Memorial Award in Science at Okanagan College 2026:

  • Applicant must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
  • Applicant must have completed a minimum of 48 credits of full-time study in the Science programme at any Okanagan College campus, with a minimum of 9 credits (60% course load) or 6 credits (40% course load for students with permanent disabilities).
  • Applicant must be proceeding to the third or fourth year of a Science programme at any post-secondary institution the following September for a subsequent year of full-time study.
  • Preference is given to a mature female student with family responsibilities who intends to pursue a career in Science.
  • If no applicant meets the above criteria, the award may be given to a student who has completed one or more years of full-time study in any University Studies or degree programme at Okanagan College and is proceeding to another post-secondary institution for a subsequent year of full-time study.
  • Applicant must demonstrate academic achievement and financial need.
  • A mature student is an applicant who is at least 19 years of age and has been out of full-time secondary school for at least one year before commencing their programme.

  • The recipient is selected by the OC-Wide and Kelowna Awards Selection Committee.

Value of the Award:

  • One award of up to CAD 1,000 is awarded to the recipient, based on the accrued annual interest on the endowment fund.
