Ruth and Oswald L Kraus Innovator-in-Residence Scholarship at Victoria University of Wellington
The Ruth and Oz Kraus Scholarship supports a one-trimester student residency at Wai-te-ata Press, enabling exploration of creative writing and publishing through letterpress, 3D printing, and digital media. Students collaborate with writers, artists, and translators, producing publications, exhibitions, or talks, and receive a stipend along with Individual Directed Study course credit.
Eligibility Criteria of Ruth and Oswald L Kraus Innovator-in-Residence Scholarship:
- Applicants must have completed at least two years of study at Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington and be enrolled or intending to study in the following year.
- Recipients are expected to spend 10 weeks (400 hours) on-site at Wai-te-ata Press during Trimester Three (November to February) to complete the required outputs.
Selection Criteria: The successful applicant will demonstrate a professional approach to their creative practice, be willing to explore and extend their current thinking, share a commitment to creative innovation, and provide evidence of successful project completion.
Application Process: A completed online application must be submitted on the closing date. Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted.
Award: NZD 12,000.
Note:
- A total of NZD 12,000 will be provided: an NZD 8,000 stipend paid in three instalments directly to the student (beginning, mid-way upon submission of a progress report, and at the end) and NZD 4,000 towards tuition fees and levies paid directly to the University by the Scholarships Office (any remaining funds can be used for materials, exhibitions, or promotion costs). The stipend is eligible for an Individual Directed Study course credit (FHSS211 – 15 points, FHSS311 – 20 points, or FHSS421 – 15 points).
- Students will have access to Wai-te-ata Press facilities, technical expertise, the University community, and local/international networks. A final report will be submitted to the donors’ daughter and archived at Wai-te-ata Press and the VUW Development Office.
