    The prize was established in 2008 and is financed by a donation from the family of the late Richard Paul Anschutz, who was Professor of Philosophy from 1956-1961. The purpose of the Prize is to encourage study in political philosophy at the University of Auckland.

    Eligibility for Richard Anschutz Prize for Stage I Ethics and Political Philosophy 2024:

    • The Prize will be awarded to the student who achieves the highest mark in Stage I Ethics and Philosophy courses.
    • As a minimum standard, the student must have achieved an A- grade. 
    • In the event of a tie, the Prize will be awarded to the student who achieved the highest mark in the examination.

    Application Process:

    Students do not need to apply for this scholarship, award, or prize or complete an online application form. It is awarded on the recommendation of the relevant faculty or University of Auckland committee.

The University of Auckland Council will not be bound to make an award in a particular year if there is no candidate of sufficient merit.
