Introduction:
The Department of Justice and Public Safety (JPS) prioritizes a community policing approach in the delivery of policing services. Community policing promotes organizational strategies that support the systematic use of partnerships and problem-solving techniques to proactively address the immediate conditions that give rise to public safety issues such as crime, social disorder, and fear of crime. Community policing relies on representation from, and engagement with, the community it serves. An over-representation of racialized and Indigenous populations in the justice system, coupled with their under-representation in the administration of justice, also contributes to lower confidence in the justice system
