Post-Matric Scholarship Scheme for Students with Disabilities

• This scheme was introduced in 2014-15 to support the education of students with disabilities at the post-matriculation (post-secondary) level.
• Its primary aim is to provide financial assistance to the parents of students with disabilities, allowing these students to continue their education despite facing various physical, financial, and psychological challenges.
• The scholarship helps students with disabilities pursue further studies and gain the skills needed to secure a livelihood and improve their place in society.

Key Objectives of the Scheme:

Financial Assistance to Parents:

• The scheme provides financial support to parents of students with disabilities to help them fund their children's education after the matriculation level.

Promoting Inclusion:

• The goal is to improve the participation of students with disabilities in post-matric education, ensuring they can pursue higher education and training opportunities.
• Supporting Livelihood: By enabling students to pursue further studies, the scheme helps them develop skills that improve their chances of earning a livelihood and contributing meaningfully to society.
• Overcoming Barriers: The scholarship aims to help students overcome physical, financial, mental, and psychological barriers in pursuing their education and achieving their potential. 

Eligibility Criteria:

Disability Requirement:

• The student must have a disability of 40% or more, certified by a competent medical authority from the state government or Union Territories (UTs).
• Students with less than 40% disability are not eligible for the scholarship.

Income Criteria:

• The annual income of the student's parents or guardian from all sources must not exceed Rs. 2.5 lakh.

Course of Study:

• The scholarship is available for students studying any post-matriculation or post-secondary course in recognized institutions.
• However, it does not apply to certain training courses specified in the scheme's guidelines.

Financial Assistance Provided:

• The scholarship covers various educational expenses, subject to specific ceilings as per the norms:

Scholarship Amount.

• Reimbursement of compulsory non-refundable fees.
• Book Grant.
• Maintenance Allowance.
• Escort/Reader Allowance (if required).
• Study Tour Charges. 

Number of Scholarships:

• Every year, 16,650 scholarships are available for post-matric students with disabilities. 

Selection Process:

• The selection of beneficiaries is based on merit, and candidates must be recommended by the state or Union Territory governments.
• The selection process will be conducted online through a dedicated web portal.
