Postgraduate Research EU Scholarships 2025-26

  • The Postgraduate Research EU Scholarships are for new EU postgraduate research students (including MAD, MSD, MPhil, and PhD) classified as international students for fee purposes.
  • This scholarship provides a discount of £8,000 per year for full-time postgraduate research degrees, up to a maximum total of £32,000 for a four-year integrated PGR degree.
  • The scholarship will be automatically deducted from your annual tuition fees.

Eligibility:

  • Overseas Fee Payers: Scholarships are for students classified as overseas fee payers and who are entirely self-funded.

Ordinarily Resident in the EU:

  • Applicants must be ordinarily resident in an EU country for at least the last three years before starting the course.

Postgraduate Research Programmes:

  • The scholarship is available for the following research degree courses:
    • 2-year MAD, MSD
    • 3-year MPhil, PhD
    • 4-year integrated PhD
  • Start Date: You must register for the first year of your research degree in October 2025, January 2026, or April 2026.

Scholarship Details:

  • Discount: £8,000 per year, deducted from your tuition fees.
  • Maximum Award: £32,000 for a four-year integrated PhD.

Students Who Are Not Eligible:

  • Non-EU Residents: Students not ordinarily resident in an EU country.
  • Sponsored Students: Students who are fully or partly sponsored by their government or external agencies (not including VISA sponsorship).
  • Deferring Students: If you defer entry, you will no longer be eligible for the scholarship and will be considered under the new terms for your deferred entry year.
  • Transfer Students: Students transferring from another UK higher education institution.
  • Home Fee Status: Students classified as paying home tuition fees.
  • Current Students: Students whose first year of Postgraduate Research study at Essex was prior to the 2025-26 academic year.
