The goal of the project is to address the underrepresentation of patients who identify as culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) in the use of Northern Health's Virtual Emergency Department, Australia's first such platform since its launch in 2023. In addition, it looks into why fewer clinicians use virtual platform interpreting services than traditional phone interpreting services. The project will significantly aid in their efforts to improve the health and wellness of CALD patients and involves a three-month internship situated at the Northern Hospital.
Eligibility criteria for PhD Scholarship in Improving Under-representation of Migrant Population in Virtual Emergency at RMIT 2025:
Applicants must:
- Meet RMIT PhD entry criteria (honours degree with a research component, a research-based master’s, or equivalent experience).
- Hold distinction/high-distinction level results as required.
- Be able to live in Melbourne, Victoria, for the duration of the project.
- Be able to enroll by 31 Oct 2025 and commence between Jan–Jun 2026.
- Complete a 3-month internship and undertake the PhD as a thesis with publications.
